Choosing an Auctioneer
Getting the best price at auction
Making the right decision
As a seller, you want to get the best price you can for your items. Choosing an auctioneer is not easy. Here is a checklist to help. Look for auctioneers who:
- Own their own permanent saleroom
- Offer frequent, convenient viewing times before the sale
- Provide ample car parking for buyers and sellers
- Are easily accessible to motorways, main roads and rail
- Host their own website with illustrated catalogues available to download
- Feature on external trade websites
- Supply a printed catalogue
- Advertise within the trade press
- Have a clear and defined charging structure
- Have consultants available
- Are long established
- Have a good local reputation
- Are regulated members of RICS
- Are supporters of 'Antiques are Green' campaign
If the answer is favourable to all of the above, then you should have a successful sale through a reputable auctioneer.
